Many facilities, such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, as well as consulting agencies are great places for a medical coder to work.
Most jobs are remote within the medical coding industry, although some local facilities may require an on-site employee.
Yes! Most companies that hire medical coders offer benefits for full-time employees, such as insurance, 401K, and paid time off.
Yes! Contract agencies are no different than traditional on-site employers. Many agencies will also offer incentives and frequent salary increases.
An employee of a consulting agency who works remotely may earn more than an employee employed through a local facility. Area rates and lack of competition often result in lower pay for an on-site employee. A remote contract employee has a greater chance of earning more due to the rising need for medical coders, and the ability to work anywhere in the United States.
Full-time employment is more commonly sought after by hiring firms. Part-time and as-needed positions are also offered, but may not be sought after as often as a full-time employee.
All course material is provided on our learning platform. Once enrolled in the coding course, the student is responsible for purchasing coding manuals. These manuals will also be used when taking your certification exam. Links to specific books needed will be provided within the coding course. The additional cost of these books ranges from $300-$350.
As soon as a student completes the required courses with a passing grade, they are eligible to sit for the CPC Exam, which is offered remotely through AAPC. Links will be provided at the end of the course, as well as further instructions, about scheduling your credentialing exam. Lagniappe Medical Coding Academy is not authorized to proctor the CPC Exam.
